New to My Playlist #37 (+ Hunger Games Song by Taylor Swift & The Civil Wars)

This is what's new to my most listened to playlist and how it came into my life (so grateful for music).

"Safe and Sound" by Taylor Swift ft. The Civil Wars

Found: spotify when re-listening to "Back to December"
Thoughts: One of the official songs from The Hunger Games movie! (So excited for it even though I have many doubts.) Gosh, it sounds wonderful. I'm surprised about how well Taylor Swift sounds with The Civil Wars in this (it's more their sound than hers, but it's sill great). I feel like this song will be played in the movie during the Rue scene (readers of The Hunger Games will know which scene I mean).
If you haven't read The Hunger Games (click there to read my thoughts on it) trilogy yet. I have no idea what you're waiting for. It's to be highly enjoyed by those who love non-stop action, crazy governments, heartwarming tales, and love triangles.

"Bats in the Attic" by King Creosote & Jon Hopkins

Found: spotify through related artists
Favorite: that voice!

"Counting Back to 1" by Beautiful Small Machine

Found: spotify through related artists
Favorite: hey little baby what would you say if I took you further away
Thoughts: This song is so fun and upbeat. You'll find yourself singing along in no time and moving about as you do it. It reminds me of a video game in the beginning :)

Waiting on Wednesday: Glitch by Heather Anastasiu

RD: August 2012

In the Community, there is no more pain or war. Implanted computer chips have wiped humanity clean of destructive emotions, and thoughts are replaced by a feed from the Link network.

When Zoe starts to malfunction (or "glitch"), she suddenly begins having her own thoughts, feelings, and identity. Any anomalies must be immediately reported and repaired, but Zoe has a secret so dark it will mean certain deactivation if she is caught: her glitches have given her uncontrollable telekinetic powers.

As Zoe struggles to control her abilities and stay hidden, she meets other glitchers including Max, who can disguise his appearance, and Adrien, who has visions of the future. Both boys introduce Zoe to feelings that are entirely new. Together, this growing band of glitchers must find a way to free themselves from the controlling hands of the Community before they’re caught and deactivated, or worse.

In this action-packed debut, Glitch begins an exciting new young adult trilogy.

This sounds super fun!!!

I have no idea what he meant by that, or how they could’ve gotten there, but he’s gone for the weekend, so I’ll need your help getting them out. I’ve had this computer for two years—those cookies have almost certainly gone bad by now."

Client: I want it gold… like the gold in the glitter I have here.
Me: What?
Client: I just faxed you the glitter. Use that color of gold.
Me: When you fax something you know the recipient receives a black print out.
Client: Oh, I’ll just mail it to you then.
Me: That’s okay - I can make this text on your website gold without the glitter.
Client: No, I’ll feel better if you can see what I’m talking about.
A few days later I received an envelope full of glitter.

Waiting on Wednesday: Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne

RD: June 5, 2012. Click to add to Goodreads.
Fourteen kids. One superstore. A million things that go wrong.

A huge store isn’t the worst place to be stranded. There’s food and water, bedding and books. But what if it’s not safe to leave? Emmy Laybourne had us from the get-go with her utterly fresh and fast-paced debut.

Six high school kids (some popular, some not), two eighth graders (one a tech genius), and six little kids are trapped together in a chain superstore. Together they build a refuge for themselves inside, while outside, a series of escalating disasters, beginning with a monster hailstorm and ending with a chemical weapon spill, seems to be tearing the world—as they know it—apart.

haha! someone commented on goodreads: "I've always wanted to live in Walmart." I actually once had a dream about a post-apocalyptic scenario in which I ended up hiding out in a Walmart-like place. I had this dream after watching 28 Weeks Later so that makes some sense. Excited!

In My Mailbox: Pure Revealing Pearl and Freshman Disasters

What I recently received in the mail...

for review. from publisher.
RD: February 8
Pressia barely remembers the Detonations or much about life during the Before. In her sleeping cabinet, she thinks about what is lost--how the world went from amusement parks, movie theaters, birthday parties, fathers and mothers . . . to ash and dust, scars, permanent burns, and fused, damaged bodies.

My copy of PURE came with this cute button and the below butterfly bookmark that you twist and pops out when you open the book (yes, it made me yelp a bit then laugh shortly after). Never seen one before, but I love it. Can't wait to dive into PURE!

Eden Newman must mate before her 18th birthday in six months or she'll be left outside to die in a burning world. But who will pick up her mate-option when she's cursed with white skin and a tragically low mate-rate of 15%?
In a post-apocalyptic, totalitarian, underground world where class and beauty are defined by resistance to an overheated environment, Eden's coloring brands her as a member of the lowest class, a weak and ugly Pearl. If only she can mate with a dark-skinned Coal from the ruling class, she'll be safe. Just maybe one Coal sees the Real Eden and will be her salvation—her co-worker Jamal has begun secretly dating her. But when Eden unwittingly compromises her father's secret biological experiment, she finds herself in the eye of a storm—and thrown into the last area of rainforest, a strange and dangerous land.
Eden must fight to save her father, who may be humanity's last hope, while standing up to a powerful beast-man she believes is her enemy, despite her overwhelming attraction. Eden must change to survive but only if she can redefine her ideas of beauty and of love, along with a little help from her "adopted aunt" Emily Dickinson.

Kelsey Finkelstein is fourteen and FRUSTRATED. Every time she tries to live up to her awesome potential, her plans are foiled – by her impossible parents, her annoying little sister, and life in general. But with her first day of high school coming up, Kelsey is positive that things are going to change. Enlisting the help of her three best friends — sweet and quiet Em, theatrical Cass, and wild JoJo — Kelsey gets ready to rebrand herself and make the kind of mark she knows is her destiny.

Things start out great - her arch-nemesis has moved across the country, giving Kelsey the perfect opportunity to stand out on the soccer team and finally catch the eye of her long-time crush. But soon enough, an evil junior’s thirst for revenge, a mysterious photographer, and a series of other catastrophes make it clear that just because KELSEY has a plan for greatness… it doesn’t mean the rest of the world is in on it.

Kelsey’s hilarious commentary throughout her disastrous freshman year will have you laughing out loud—while being thankful that you’re not in her shoes, of course…

check out the trailer if you haven't already. sounds fun/misadventurous.

Up until senior year, Greg has maintained total social invisibility. He only has one friend, Earl, and together they spend their times a hilarious, outrageous, and truthful look at death and high school by a prodigiously talented debut author.

I started reading it and I'm really digging so far.
