Waiting on Wednesday: I Am J by Cris Beam

I Am JRelease Date: March 1, 2011

Synopsis:

"Hola, Jeni."

J spun. His stomach clenched hard, as though he'd been hit. It was just the neighbor lady, Mercedes. J couldn't muster a hello back, not now; he didn't care that she'd tell his mom he'd been rude. She should know better. Nobody calls me Jeni anymore.
J always felt different. He was certain that eventually everyone would understand who he really was: a boy mistakenly born as a girl. Yet as he grew up, his body began to betray him; eventually J stopped praying to wake up a "real boy" and started covering up his body, keeping himself invisible - from his family, from his friends...from the world. But after being deserted by the best friend he thought would always be by his side, J decides that he's done hiding - it's time to be who he really is. And this time he is determined not to give up, no matter the cost.
An inspiring story of self-discovery, of choosing to stand up for yourself, and of finding your own path - readers will recognize a part of themselves in J's struggle to love his true self.

I want to read this one!

Who's seen No Strings Attached?

No Strings Attached (2011) 27 x 40 Movie Poster - Style A
I really want to watch it because I have a girl crush on Natalie Portman. She's so adorable and I love all her movies. I'm a fan of Ashton Kutcher because ...um have you seen him? Better yet, have you seen him shirtless?

Anyway. I'm debating whether to see this movie or not. The trailer makes it seem like Ashton and Cameron Diaz's What Happened in Vegas. Even the guy's best friend is pretty much exactly the same character. A co-worker told me it was pretty fun, but not that great of a chick flick. I would like more opinions though. It seems like a "rental," but who knows *shrugs*

If any of you have seen it please do let me know what you thought. Spoilers allowed but just warn us!

Thanks!

Movie Review: Easy A

Easy A Movie Poster Double Sided Original 27x40
Rating: 4/5; So fun. Re-watchable.

Release Date: September.17.10 (theatre) December.21.10 (DVD/Blu-Ray)

Synopsis:
After a little white lie about losing her virginity gets out, a clean cut high school girl (Emma Stone) sees her life paralleling Hester Prynne's in "The Scarlet Letter," which she is currently studying in school – until she decides to use the rumor mill to advance her social and financial standing.
Thoughts:
If you're looking for a fun movie, look no further! This one's full of quite a bit of fun. The best thing I liked about it are all the charismatic characters. Even the main bitch (oops can't stop saying bitch because of the best friend!) was a likeable character.
Olive is used to being off the radar, but when she lies to her best friend in order to get out of camping with her very birthday suit loving parents, she makes up a guy. Olive pretends to have lost her virginity to this imaginary man and unfortunately a gossip girl overhears and in seconds (practically) it's all over the school. This later leads to everyone thinking she's a slut, so why not just embrace it right? Now there's no way she'll be off the radar.
Little by little Olive finds herself in quite a pickle which is oh so amusing. I just want to point out that I was not a fan of the fact that people manipulate her and how she just goes with it. I also hated how she ended up "breaking up" with her best friend. That was just a stupid reason.
I liked this movie very much. I liked the adorable guy from Gossip Girl, Penn Badgley, even though he was not on screen as much or was very developed as a character. He was such a badass Woodchuck Todd. Loved the parents!!! Loved the bestie, Rhi, played by Aly Michalka. Do I really need to mention how lovable Emma Stone was in this? It should be obvious just by looking at the trailer!

Mood: You should watch this when you want to get or be chipper. Watching with friends would make it more fun!

Trailer:

Of interest:
Charlie Bartlett/I don't know why but Charlie B's demeanor reminded me of the protagonist, Olive.
Easy A: Site. Yes, freeolive.com redirects to that one :/

Waiting on Wednesday: Like Mandarin by Kirsten Hubbard

Like Mandarin
Release Date: March 8, 2011

Synopsis:
It's hard finding beauty in the badlands of Washokey, Wyoming, but 14-year-old Grace Carpenter knows it's not her mother's pageant obsessions, or the cowboy dances adored by her small-town classmates. True beauty is wild-girl Mandarin Ramey: 17, shameless and utterly carefree. Grace would give anything to be like Mandarin.

When they're united for a project, they form an unlikely, explosive friendship, packed with nights spent skinny-dipping in the canal, liberating the town's animal-head trophies, and searching for someplace magic. Grace plays along when Mandarin suggests they run away together. Blame it on the crazy-making wildwinds plaguing their badlands town.

Because all too soon, Grace discovers Mandarin's unique beauty hides a girl who's troubled, broken, and even dangerous. And no matter how hard Grace fights to keep the magic, no friendship can withstand betrayal.

I'm SO curious about Mandarin!

Waiting on Wednesday: Held by Edeet Ravel

Synopsis:
What happens when the source of your worst fears becomes the object of your affection?

Seventeen-year-old Chloe's summer vacation in Greece comes to an abrupt end when she is suddenly bound, gagged and whisked away to an unidentified location. Waking up from a drug-induced sleep, she finds herself in a squalid warehouse. Chloe can only imagine the worst.

After several days of total isolation and utter despair, Chloe faces a new threat when her kidnapper appears, but she also feels a sense of relief. His revelation that she is being held as ransom for a prisoner exchange, however, does little to allay her fears.

The weeks pass and, haunted by terrifying dreams and with only her thoughts to keep her company, Chloe fights to remain calm in an impossible situation. At least her kidnapper, although cold and distant, visits frequently, often bringing gifts. Before long, Chloe begins to have feelings for him that take her by surprise. Though still fearing for her safety, she now fantasizes about a life together. And is it her imagination, or does her captor share those feelings? Even when she is finally released, Chloe vows to protect her captor at any cost.

This powerful psychological thriller, written by renowned novelist Edeet Ravel, leaves readers wondering at every suspenseful turn: Is Chloe experiencing Stockholm syndrome?

A story about a possible case of Stockholm Syndrome?! Count me in!! I love me some psychological thrillers. I recently read Stolen by Lucy Christopher and loved it. (That book was also a possible case of Stockholm Syndrome.)

Can't wait to get the chance to read Held!

Are you curious?

Waiting on Wednesday hosted by Breaking the Spine. Check out the rest!
