Waiting on Wednesday: Never Going Back by Antonia Banyard

Never Going Back
Release Date: October 15

"Never Going Back" is set in a small town in the British Columbia interior, where potheads, loggers, environmentalists, conspiracy theorists and aging hippies provide a vibrant backdrop to the dark themes explored in its narrative. This is a story about memory, loss and redemption, and moving beyond nostalgia, and into the future with perspective and understanding. It focuses on the role that many of us play in a tragedy, watching helplessly from the sidelines, believing we are not involved when, in fact, we are. Through the perspectives of Siobhan, Evan and Lance, layers of the past peel away to expose connections to the central trauma of their shared lives.

Sounds really interesting!

Song: Big Jumps by Emiliana Torrini

The original video is so very creative please go watch it in the following link (embedding was disabled):
Big Jumps

I adore the message in this song :D

i walked all morning to lift my heart
cause the world keeps dancing with the paper man
i love you never talk in dreams
i always hear your happiness is real
oh make some big jumps, big jumps you afraid to break some bones
come on make some big jumps, big jumps life is your saulte
you hold your head up, your head up high like you think i do

sometimes i feel so confused
i'm under the illusion that i have to choose
i love you always know the way
the way back home always is the same
oh make some big jumps, big jumps you afraid to break some bones
come on make some big jumps, big jumps life is your saulte
you hold your head up, your head up high like you think i do

tick tock, this clockwork will stop
you're the key for winding up my heart
brick, brack if you don't wind me up
this guy will lie upon me lke a passed out drunk
without you i will never rise again, without you i will never rise..

hey there, sunshine in my heart
i know life is long but it goes so fast
i love you never feeling old
you never bought the rubbish that they sold

oh make some big jumps, big jumps you afraid to break some bones
come on make some big jumps, big jumps life is your saulte
you hold your head up, your head up high like you think i do

oh do some big jumps, big jumps you afraid to break some bones
come on make some big jumps, big jumps life is your saulte
you hold your head up, your head up high like you think i do

P.S--Am I crazy, or does she kind of resemble Audrey Tatou in that picture?

But if you do want to advertise on this blog or sponsor it, just email me! I will gladly take your request into consideration. Like I said though, if it's about an "escort" service. Uh, no. Book Review: The Absolute Value of -1 by Steve Brezenoff

The Absolute Value of -1 (Carolrhoda Ya)Rating: 4/5; really liked it, but had some issues with it.

Release Date: September 1, 2010

Synopsis:
The Absolute Value of -1 is the story of three good friends who each have problems of their own. Throughout the book one deals with heartbreak, the other with a parent's imminent death, and the third with drugs and an abusive father.

Thoughts:
Once I began reading this book I honestly did not put it down until I was finished. The writing is what I loved most and what actually kept me reading more than the story. Don't get me wrong, the story was good, but I still felt as if I did not completely get to know the three protagonists.
I am having a hard time finding the words to explain how I felt about this book. I found myself loving the fact that these three friends who seem pretty close to everyone around them had no idea what was really going on in each other's lives. At the same time you wish you could just open all of their eyes (especially that Lily!). If they could just take more interest in each other's lives maybe they would have been able to help each other throughout all the mess they had to deal with. It was somewhat frustrating to find out what the story was all about, but the writing was just so compelling that I couldn't stay away from it. The ending was not particularly interesting to me and I did not fancy that Lily's narration was often times confusing. It was also pretty boring in my opinion. As for Noah, he needed to get a life. Those drugs were making him so lame, it was pathetic and uninteresting too. As for his father, he could have freakin' done something about it (call CPS for example). Simon was fairly fascinating to read about and I wish he could have talked to someone more about what he was going through instead of just writing it down.
This book is unique, especially all the three characters' voices, but many will find it difficult to get into and/or finish. I think what I might like the most about this book is not just the writing, but how "friends" can be so near each other, yet know almost nothing about one another. That's just so sad.

Book Review: Infinite Days by Rebecca Maizel

Infinite Days (Vampire Queen)Rating: 3/5; It was okay. Somewhat forgettable, somewhat entertaining.

Release Date: August 2010

Synopsis:
Another vampire book. This one's about a girl vamp who's turned human again. There's a love story of course. Oh and an evil mwahaha person.

Thoughts:
Quite fun and exciting but some of it was very disappointing.

You will think certain parts are stupid (the "big boss" fights ending so fast and cleanly, the girl's mean actions, and a few other things), but you might still find yourself wanting to know more about this world. I kind of want to read book #2 just to see if things get better, but the more I think about it, the more I realize I don't care too much whether I read the sequel or not. This book was just alright. I didn't find myself caring too much for the characters. I was extremely curious about them (oh curiosity, damn you!) and the fast paced storyline made the reading experience all the more compelling for me, yet in the end, I just did not care. I'm sorry but there were too many times that the protagonist's actions were off. Things just did not add up and the whole vampire-turning-human deal did not convince me. I want a vampire novel to convince me that it is possible there can be vampires co-existing in our world. This book did not live to that expectation and for that (and the cookie cutter antagonist) I found this book to be boring overall and would not particularly recommend it. For the aforementioned reasons I will not read this book again and will not be jumping for joy to read the next book, but keep in mind, I did give it 3 stars. I did that because I do not completely regret reading this book.

Boost! (le cell phone.)

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Boost Mobile. All opinions are 100% mine.

Ahsh, I'm so tired! School, work, getting things ready to volunteer (excited to work with abused children and hopefully make a difference!), and a new boss...things have been hectic lately to say the least. I had been planning to have a huge giveaway but had to postpone which I really hate, but oh well. I shall do it hopefully this month. :) So bc of funds (it's also pretty interesting I think although will all the different marketing strategies work against the competitors I wonder) I have this post sponsored by a neat company.

*click on the links for more info on that particular subject*

Ya'll have probably heard of Boost Mobile. Well, what you probably haven't heard is that they're doing this new cool and convenient thing called Re-Boost where they allow you to pay for their service in different ways. You can now pay online, by phone, or by person at any of their many locations.

I think it's a pretty cool marketing strategy especially since uh who else does this? Everyone likes convenient things. Oh what I like the most is how you can add money to a friend or family's Boost mobile account.

You can take advantage of this service in order to pay a fee for an unlimited amount of usage for keeping up with friends/family (even strangers if you're into that but hopefully not creepers!) on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

As you may also know, Boost Mobile offers tons of phones including the infamous (teehee) Blackberry. My brother and three friends of mine have Blackberries (sp? haha) and boy are they in love. I personally don't like them. They're just too big. I like smaller phones. They are very pretty though and can do everything it seems. I wonder if they'll ever come up with a Blueberry ;) By the way, you can buy some of the phones online too. They have some really cheap ones for around $30 bucks.

Here's a funny image for your viewing "pleasure."

Book Review: Take Me There by Carolee Dean

Take Me ThereRating: 3.5/5; It was okay. Not completely my kind of read.

Release Date: July 20, 2010

Synopsis:
Sometimes sexy, sometimes sad, and always intense, Take Me There is a dark and surprising novel about a boy on the run who's headed nowhere fast.

Dylan has a bad-boy past and a criminal record. He knows that rich, beautiful Jess is way too good for him—but she has always been the one person who sees through his tough exterior and straight to his heart, and he has been hopelessly in love with her from the first time they met. He would change his life for a chance with her.

But trouble follows Dylan wherever he goes, and a deadly mistake soon forces him to hit the road and leave his dreams behind. He’s on the run and in search of answers—answers to questions he wishes he’d never asked.

Thoughts:
By looking at the cover of the book YA folks will probably think this book is a love story. Well let me tell you right now, it's sure isn't. Just like the blurb on the back of the book states, it's the story of a guy who is struggling with his problematic life, his past, his soon-to-be-executed father, and his future.
I liked how throughout the whole book the reader is basically inside Dylan's mind. The reader gets to know the kind of good hearted person he is. He has gotten in trouble many times throughout his life, but usually it's because he's trying to live honestly.
Part mystery, part coming-of-age, and somewhat romantic, this book ends up being very interesting, but unfortunately not my kind of read. I just found it to be very slow and Dylan did not fully convince me as being a teenage guy. Maybe that's just me *shrug* Jessica just did not seem to be that developed. I wish I knew more about them and their lives. Most of this book is about Dylan and his relationship with his father. It's somewhat interesting, but like I said, not my kind of read.
By the way: no, I do not think this story is "sometimes sexy."
