School and my major - Education or Child Psychology???

Ahh!

I have such a crazy workload and it's only the first week.

This semester I'm taking:

Music -- we're learning how to read notes. No, I know nothing about music (I play nothing, I can read nothing yata yata)

Abnormal Psychology --so awesome!

Child Psychology --ditto! It's mandatory to do 15 hrs of community service in one of three facilities that help children who've been abused. I really hope I can help those kids!!

History -- there's a guy there who aspires to legally grow weed (it's surprising how much he's got planned, he really knows what he's doing). hilarious.

Japanese -- hajimimashte Lisette-o desu/how are you, my name is Lisette. I think how are you? is more like hajimimashte ku agh! not sure. I forgot already.
I learned a bit of Japanese about 3 years ago and forgot pretty much everything so grr sucky mc suck suck.

Now, about my major. I have no idea what I want to do!! I'm thinking strongly of it being Education so I can be an elementary school teacher or child psychology. I'm so interested in both but agh! I don't know :(
It's so hard to pick a freakin' career. Do I have to mention how expensive it is? Very.

Hmm maybe I should major in Child Psychology then much later become a teacher by getting my certification through a program like the one I work for. Qualifications for Texas teacher looking to becoming certified through an alternative program: minimum of an overall 2.5 GPA (overall or just on Bachelor's, depends on the program), minimum of a Bachelor's and anything else program may require.

'Tis all for now. :)
Have a great week!!!

Interesting: What Jason Bateman?

Uh interesting. I really wish it was funny.

Movie Review: Going the Distance 9/3/10

Going the DistanceRating: 4/5; fun. really liked it.

Release Date: September 3, 2010

Synopsis:
The film revolves around a couple who try to maintain a long-distance relationship, one in New York, New York and the other in San Francisco, California.
-wiki.

Thoughts:
Buttprint, Mia, "statue!", phone sex, hilarious best friends, traumatized sister, bathroom open door policy, dry humping, Thanksgiving.
Doesn't that intrigue you?
This movie is technically a romantic comedy, but it's not like all that crap that's been coming out lately that usually has the same exact and predictable plot line. It's really fun and hilarious. It wasn't amazing, but it is something I would not mind watching again. It's so cute how Barrymore and Long are a couple in real life and in this movie. Too cute! The story did a pretty good (and realistic) job at showing how hard it must be for a couple to deal with a long distance relationship, but I wish the audience was shown more moments with Garret and Erin together instead of apart.
Sometimes it really made the audience laugh out loud. There was one particular scene that made me laugh so much my throat hurt afterward which really sucked when I laughed like crazy a minute or so later.
Like I said, really enjoyable with neat music (wow The Boxer Rebellion!!!) and odd/awesome Charlie Day from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Oh that reminds me of the Charlie Chaplin scene haha so funny!!
Just watch it if you're in the mood for something a little different, quirky, and not total crap like other Rom-Coms.

-Goodreads

Thoughts:
Wow I really wanted to like this one. I love the idea of reincarnation (I especially fancy Buddhism), but gosh the protagonist really killed the reading experience for me. It wasn't just her stupidity and gullibility that made it a difficult read. The rest of the characters were lame and very flat. The story wasn't much better.
There are certain parts of the book I really enjoyed which made me like the book. For example: I love the author's writing. Miller pays such great attention to detail I could clearly "see" so much of the world she was describing. Unfortunately this book is still not something I would re-read or particularly recommend. Maybe if it were shorter (it can get SO slow and tedious) it would be slightly more enjoyable. Only slightly. The characters need some cojones. Most of the time, the actions the characters made were ridiculous. Why would you blindly believe something a stranger tells you? Why would you later believe the contradiction of things stated by said stranger from another stranger? D-U-M-B. Oh and the "twists." Psh! Please. I saw those coming from a mile away. Lame.
If you care about a well thought out story and characters, you will not highly enjoy this book. The love story did not convince me and neither did the antagonist. At some point, the story built up to a scene were it seems there will be a confrontation of some kind, but nothing happens. Can you say disappoint? Sometimes I don't care too much about the story if the love story is amazing and believable, but in this case it's not. Not even close.
Since this book is the first in a series it is possible the sequel has a few surprises in store, but I doubt it. If I get really curious I will just check it out of my local library. I still wouldn't run like crazy for it though.

Fallout
RD: September 14, 2010

**beware of spoilers if you haven't read the first two books like me hehe **

Hunter, Autumn, and Summer—three of Kristina Snow's five children—live in different homes, with different guardians and different last names. They share only a predisposition for addiction and a host of troubled feelings toward the mother who barely knows them, a mother who has been riding with the monster, crank, for twenty years.
Hunter is nineteen, angry, getting by in college with a job at a radio station, a girlfriend he loves in the only way he knows how, and the occasional party. He's struggling to understand why his mother left him, when he unexpectedly meets his rapist father, and things get even more complicated. Autumn lives with her single aunt and alcoholic grandfather. When her aunt gets married, and the only family she's ever known crumbles, Autumn's compulsive habits lead her to drink. And the consequences of her decisions suggest that there's more of Kristina in her than she'd like to believe. Summer doesn't know about Hunter, Autumn, or their two youngest brothers, Donald and David. To her, family is only abuse at the hands of her father's girlfriends and a slew of foster parents. Doubt and loneliness overwhelm her, and she, too, teeters on the edge of her mother's notorious legacy. As each searches for real love and true family, they find themselves pulled toward the one person who links them together—Kristina, Bree, mother, addict. But it is in each other, and in themselves, that they find the trust, the courage, the hope to break the cycle.
Told in three voices and punctuated by news articles chronicling the family's story, FALLOUT is the stunning conclusion to the trilogy begun by CRANK and GLASS, and a testament to the harsh reality that addiction is never just one person's problem.

The Lightning Thief   [LIGHTNING THIEF] [Paperback]
RD: 2006

Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

A friend thinks I'll like this. I started it but agh! It's really hard to get into! It's so similar to Harry Potter it's putting me off. Does it get better?

Movie Review: Scott Pilgrim vs the World

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Movie (Playing Guitar) Poster Print - 22x34Rating: 5/5; So freakin' awesome. Add-to-your-collection worthy. Totally worth the theater ticket.

Release Date:
August 13, 2010

Based on:

Why I Watched It:

Uh, have you seen the trailer?!

Thoughts:
Wow. Very very awesome. Way more awesome than I expected it to be. To be honest I hate Michael Cera. At first I found him charming and yes, I do like the movies he is in, but I always hate him. Maybe he's not a bad actor, I wouldn't know since he's always the SAME person in everything, but either way I'm not a fan. For that reason I was somewhat hesitant about this movie. I didn't let that get too much in the way and I'm glad because this movie is so freaking fun and oh so darn hilarious!
Watch it. Just do it. There really isn't too much I can say about this movie. I loved it, I will watch it again, I will buy it on blu-ray, it made me laugh constantly, I loved the dialogue so much it hurts, I want to dye my hair green even more now (HA! loved the "he literally slapped the highlights out of her hair!" bit plus the visuals showing that had actually happened), and I really really want to play that ninja game Scott and Knives were playing. Don't expect the love story to be fully developed, but do expect to have a blast when watching this movie.

I love this series! It's so fun! Go read that first book!

Synopsis:
After years of frequent moves following her mother’s death, Chloe Saunders’s life is finally settling down. She is attending art school, pursuing her dreams of becoming a director, making friends, meeting boys. Her biggest concern is that she’s not developing as fast as her friends are. But when puberty does hit, it brings more than hormone surges. Chloe starts seeing ghosts–everywhere, demanding her attention. After she suffers a breakdown, her devoted aunt Lauren gets her into a highly recommended group home.

At first, Lyle House seems a pretty okay place, except for Chloe’s small problem of fearing she might be facing a lifetime of mental illness. But as she gradually gets to know the other kids at the home–charming Simon and his ominous, unsmiling brother Derek, obnoxious Tori, and Rae, who has a “thing” for fire–Chloe begins to realize that there is something that binds them all together, and it isn’t your usual “problem kid” behaviour. And together they discover that Lyle House is not your usual group home either…
