{Movie Review} Daybreakers (2010)

Rating: 3/5; It was okay, not mind boggling. Watch at least once. Rentable.

Release Date: January 2010

Synopsis:
Edward Dalton is a researcher in the year 2019, in which an unknown plague has transformed the world's population into vampires. As the human population nears extinction, vampires must capture and farm every remaining human, or find a blood substitute before time runs out. However, a covert group of vampires makes a remarkable discovery, one which has the power to save the human race

Thoughts:
I really liked some parts of this one because they were great! Unfortunately those scenes, the semi interesting storyline, Ethan Hawke, and Willem Dafoe were not enough to make this movie a keeper. It was extremely disappointing. It just had so much potential but completely fell flat. I might still end up buying the DVD (most likely blu-ray) when it's released just so I can watch those 2 or so awesome scenes. They were so good I have to see them again. And again. My absolute favorite scene involved a lot of killing in slow motion with well fitting music in the background. I loved that!
The movie had its moments but that wasn't enough (really wish I hadn't paid so much for those theater tickets!). The storyline was good but the audience is led to believe there will be a lot of action packed scenes and that is not the case. One might enjoy this movie more if they go in without expecting action/adventure. The movie is not about that it's more about politics and power with vampires. It makes you think quite a bit especially about finding the cure for diseases like AIDS, cancer, etc. I thought the "cure" was really cool and oh so ended up getting hilarious. The first hour or so of the movie is pretty boring and takes forever to get to the point so if one buys the DVD/blu-ray, I would recommend fast forwarding quite a bit. It only got interesting towards the end. I don't know about you, but I like being entertained from beginning to end and everywhere in between :)

I really do think I'm going to buy the blu ray. It's released on May 11th. I might wait until it's on sale though because I'm broke :)

Great review! I haven't heard of this one, though I'm also not sure I'll be checking it out because I like my movies ALL exciting too, lol. This was also the first time I'd heard of Placebo, but their music is very calming, thanks! :)

I liked the premise, and I like Ethan Hawke, but I felt that the dialogue was lacking. Some of the lines were great, but a couple of lines were just so corny that they cheapened the film for me. Overall, though, I was fairly entertained.
