Age R: Middle Grade. Some young adults might enjoy it but it's not really YA.
Release Date: March 2007
Synopsis:
The Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women is a fairly typical all-girls school - that is, it would be if every school taught advanced martial arts in PE and the latest in chemical warfare in science, and students received extra credit for breaking CIA codes in computer class. The Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses, but it’s really a school for spies.
Cammie Morgan is a second-generation Gallagher Girl, and by her sophomore year she’s already fluent in fourteen languages and capable of killing a man in seven different ways (one of which involves a piece of uncooked spaghetti). But the one thing the Gallagher Academy hasn’t prepared her for is what to do when she falls for a boy who thinks she’s an ordinary girl.
Sure, she can tap his phone, hack into his computer, and track him through town without his ever being the wiser - but can she have a relationship with a regular boy who can never know the truth about her?
Cammie may be an elite spy-in-training, but in her sophomore year, she’s beginning her most dangerous mission - falling in love.
Thoughts:
The premise sounded really interesting to me so I read it. Unfortunately it fell flat in my opinion. Maybe if I was a tween I would have enjoyed it more. Actually, even then I'm not so sure I would have liked it. It would have helped though.
Not many interesting things happened in the story. For the most part we're introduced to the school and its history which I somewhat found to be interesting, but not interesting enough to take up so many pages in the story. When you read/hear the word "spy" what comes to mind? Action and adventure right? I really wanted action, but only got one little "scene." It was disappointing and needless to say, I wanted something more. There is also a bit of a love story in there that was less than interesting. The characters and their relationship was not that developed and I hate that. If that hadn't been the case, I would have ended up really loving the characters and would remember them. I don't even remember their names. That's how insignificant they were.
I wouldn't recommend this book for older readers or to the younger ones either. At least not for those who are expecting some action and great characters. If you're curious about it just support your local library and check it out of the library.

I'm sorry you didn't like this one! I loved it! I felt the characters, especially Cammie, were so strong compared to the likes of the heroine in distress that's in so many YA books now. And I felt the relationship was actually something real and tangible. It didn't work out and we don't get the happy ending like so many other books give out. I guess I liked it because, for me, it stood out against what's out there now.
heyy i have this book but i still havent read it lmao
