{Book Review} Almost Home by Nora Raleigh Baskin

Rating: 4/5 - Really liked it!

Age R: Middle Graders would love it

Release Date: September 2005

Synopsis:
After years of being shuffled from town to town and back and forth between her divorced parents, twelve-year-old Leah, now living permanently with her father and stepmother, finds it difficult to adjust to her new situation and the circumstances that made it possible.

Thoughts:
Baskin sure knows how to write a book. The point of view is of a 12 year old girl who is not very happy with the fact that her parents have been divorced and how she has to live with her father and her stepmother. She hates the fact that her life has changed so much. It just feels like she is not at home. The author effectively manages to make the reader feel just like Leah and I love that! I especially love the letteres Leah writes to her mother, it really lets the reader know more about what Leah is thinking and boy does it make you sad.
If you're an older reader you are going to guess a lot of what is going to happen just like I did but you are still going to enjoy reading this great book. I sure did. :) One main thing I didn't like though was how the reader doesn't get to find out much about Anne until maybe the last 1/4 of the book. I just don't think the author had to do that.
This book is pretty much for all ages but the ones that will enjoy it more are kids with divorced parents, those who were adopted, or just anyone who's looking for a home. I read it an approximately 1 hr and 30 min so you won't loose much by reading it but you will gain quite a lot.

I really loved reading Baskin's books and because I already have What Every Girl (except me) Knows, I'm looking forward to reading it soon.

You'll like it if you're interested in:
-Nora Raleigh Baskin
-middle grade reads
-reads giving you an interesting perspective on synesthesia
-topics dealing with the kids of divorced parents
-really great, peaceful writing
-buy it for $1.59 (not including shipping)

My folks divorced many many moons ago when I was @16. This sounds right up my alley. Thanks for the review!
