{Movie Review} The Lovely Bones

Rating: 3/5 - It was okay.

Release Date: January 15 -this Friday worldwide, but previously released (limited) on December 11th

Synopsis:
Susie Salmon, a young girl who has been murdered, watches over her family -- and her killer -- from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal.

Thoughts:
I liked it but am in no hurry to watch it again. Visually it was very pleasing to the eye (really really awesome in that aspect), but the story itself just didn't grab me. It's quite different from the book which is fine by me especially since I liked this story slightly more. To me the book was a bit creepy (the ending) so I'm glad for the differences. Even so, I didn't love the "new" story. I recommend watching this movie at least for the sometimes very lovely CGI. Peter Jackson and the other two screenwriters were thinking who knows what when writing the story though.
The reason why the story didn't keep me that interested was because it was somewhat boring. Yeah, you're thinking I'm evil or something. It was boring most of the time because it just took forever to get to the point. The whole story itself most of the time just seems like it's not done correctly. Seems rushed, ridiculous, and just not that interesting. it almost seemed as if all these random scenes were thrown in without really connecting with each other. Something just went so wrong with this movie. I really wanted to like it because I love Peter Jackson but oh well.
One thing I loved about this movie though was the soundtrack. It was just...lovely. :)

Warning:
If you're all sensitive like me (bleh, I'm just a wuss) you'll get teary eyed/cry/want to cry near the beginning of the movie. So sad :'(

Did you read the book?
You know that huge traumatic thing that happened to Susie before she was murdered? Well, that does not happen in the movie at all. So it's definitely not as "raw" as the book.
Check out what I thought about it.

Trailer:

Soundtrack:
(part of it)
"Alice"
Cocteau Twins

"Song to the Siren"
This Mortal Coil

I started the book, thought it was amazing, but was so moved to tears (and nausea) that I stopped. I'm hoping I will like the film better.

Yeah, I don't know if I'll see it or not. Maybe I'll wait 'til it's streaming on Netflix?
