I was born in 1991 and in my history classes I was not taught anything about the Kent State shootings and I think that's awful! I had to learn about this from Wikipedia. Anywho, did any of ya'll know about this or am I the only uneducated one here?
I'm sure a lot of people know about this awful event because it must practically be common sense.
Here's what happened:
The above picture was taken by John Filo and won a Pulitzer prize. Shees, you'd think I'd at least seen that one but nooo. I hate the media sometimes. I really do. Everyone is talking about reality tv shows more often than they talk about our history. For shame.

Guardsmen opened fire with rifles and at least one pistol, killing four unarmed students and wounding nine more. Nixon described himself as “deeply saddened” by the deaths at Kent State and others in a similar shooting at Mississippi’s Jackson State College.

I only heard about the Kent State shooting last year in AP US History. There are so many interesting things in our history that school rarely teaches us.
Well, I didn't know about this either, but I'm not that surprised... Everybody knows the 70s and lately 60s were very conflictic, especialy between the students and the goverment. There were a lot of revolutionary movements, antiwar movements, etc etc etc and all of them almost always ended violently :/
In this matter, sometimes the movies are more accurate than the media...

This is America! We can decide what group we belong to - but - still there are consequences. Therefore, we 'hide' in groups. Look closely at the students - what is their 'profile'? Most could be you (with fewer tatoos and absolutely no thongs), and there were those who were 'hippies'. There was so much more than 'Dress For Success' going on there.
