Synopsis:
When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.
Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.
Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.
Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind.
Thoughts:
I really really liked reading this! Starts out pretty slow and makes you want to tear out your hair because of how Lost (tv show)-like it is. Mystery topped with mystery and so on it almost makes you go crazy about when you will find out the truth. In a way it's cool because you feel just like the protagonist would feel. I didn't appreciate how predictable it was sometimes though. For example as soon as you are introduced to certain characters you know who is going to die because of course someone has to die in that crazy world. Maybe I'm just crazy though. Anyway, the ending and the journey there are worth the read and re-read. This is a book to have on your top shelf ;)
If you liked Lost, The Lord of the Flies, Battle Royale, The Hunger Games, and other dystopian stories you will most likely enjoy this novel full of unforgettable events and characters.
Hope you enjoy it! :)
There really isn't more to say. Try it out, like it a bunch then wait for the sequel. It isn't perfect but it keeps you engaged and entertained all the way through.
