Song: The Finish Line by Snow Patrol

One of my top favorite Snow Patrol songs. :)

Beautiful lyrics:
The earth is warm next to my ear
Insects noise is all that I hear
A magic trick makes the world disappear
The skies are dark, they're dark but they're clear

A distant motorcade and suddenly there's joy
The snow and tickertape blurs all my senses numb
It's like the finish line where everything just ends
The crack of radios seems close enough to touch

Cold water, cleaning my wounds
A side parade, with a single balloon
I'm done with this, I'm coming to town
Blue as seas, running to them

I feel like I am watching everything from space
And in a minute I hear my name and I wake
I think the finish line's a good place we could start
Take a deep breath, take in all that you could want

I'm Graduating Today!!!

Yep I am :D (This is of course a scheduled post since well..I'm graduating hehe)

Thursday was the last day of high school for me and I'm excited/nervous about college (!!!).

How did you guys feel when you graduated?

Edit:
For those wondering, I am going to attend The University of St. Thomas here in Houston, TX. :) I might change my mind and go to Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, TX though. But most likely it'll be St. Thomas. :D It's very nice and pretty and small well, so is TLU. Oh man recently the librarian in St. Thomas killed himself in front of some students :( That is very sad :( Poor fella.

Thanks for the good wishes!! :D

Yay! At least we get a teaser. I've been waiting for a piece of Toy Story 3 for like three years now since I first heard about it. I can't wait!!

June 18, 2010 is a long way from now but oh well. :)

Ruby Unscripted by Cindy Martinusen

Rating: 3/5
Age R: 13+
Release Date: May 5, 2009
Thoughts:
Ruby is a fifteen year old girl who is moving away from her small town home. That means away from her friends and everything she knows. But it may not be so bad considering how everyone in Marin County, California is artsy just like her. Then again things seem to be getting more and more difficult in her life. This not only causes her to be stressed out but it makes her a bit doubtful about God.
I liked this book, it was pretty good but I didn't love it. I liked how the story was very realistic. There are issues addressed that teenagers go through often. If you're Christian just like Ruby then you will especially relate.
I didn't love it because it just wasn't that great of a story for me. That might just be me though. If you find this to be your kind of story then go for it.
The writing was pretty good and I liked the plot but..like I said, it just didn't do it for me. I found myself having to take a break now and then.
I loved how Ruby actually sounds like a teenager. There are even parts in the book written in texts. That's definitely keeping up with the times now-a-days.
Another thing I didn't like was that Ruby was able to forgive London so easily. That girl was just not nice in having basically abandoned Ruby. I just thought it was pretty lame of Ruby to easily forgive London. Tsk tsk
The characters were not really well developed. Some of the characters where just kind of there. It seemed like maybe the reader would find out more about them but ..not much happened in that department. There's also the fact that not much in the book was in great detail. Certain things could have been explained more. That would have definitely made the book better in my opinion.

YOU WILL ENJOY READING THIS BOOK IF YOU LIKE:
-Christian YA
-books about moving to a new place
-parents divorced

Dream Thursday: I died :'(

This dream, more of a nightmare really, sucked :'(

This is what I remember happening:

I was lying down on a bed apparently deathly ill (hehe I love that word it sounds neato). My sister and mom were lying down next to me, my sister in the middle, my mom on the far left side and me on the far right side. There were two people who I can't remember, standing to my right looking scared and worried for me. They were either family, friends, or doctors. My sister and mom looked REALLY sad and worried about me. I think we all knew I was going to die. What we didn't know was that I would die more than once. Sounds funky huh? What happened was that I was extremely feverish (I remember it so well!) and sweaty because of it. It felt like I couldn't breathe at some point then all of a sudden, even though we were not in a hospital and there were no machines hooked up to me, I knew my heart rate was slowing down dramatically and FAST. Next thing I knew everthing went black and I died. ....Then I woke up. I was not really scared I just didn't want it to happen again because it just sucked. What I hated was the fact that my mom would NOT hug me! About a milisecond before it happened again-my heart rate slowed, my eyes rolled back, it got dark, I died, I woke up-my mom said "There she goes, I knew it". After waking up I got so mad at her because she wouldn't hug me! She knew I was dying and she still wouldn't hug me! I really wanted her to. :(

hehe odd huh? I think the not wanting to hug me part was dreamt because the day before I had this dream my mom wouldn't hug me. She was kidding but still she didn't hug me! I guess it was still on my mind...

So what did YOU dream?

Margaux with an X by Ron Koertge

Rating: 5/5
Age R: 13+
Release Date: September 2004
Thoughts:
Margaux is a girl in high school who is beautiful. Guys are always interested in her. But then comes along this strange boy, Danny, who is a year below her and dresses so weird. Thing is, he doesn't show a bit of interest in her. This immediately intrigues her. Margaux has a troubled past but so does Danny. Not only that but he actually gets her.
I LOVE this book so much you have no idea. If it were a person I would hug it and never let go. I loved it that much. It made me so sad when it ended. Seriously. I went back two times just to make sure it really was over. I didn't want it to be :'(.
I've never read any of Ron Koertge's (Stoner & Spaz, Deadville) books but I've heard a bunch of great things about him. Now I know why people say he's a great writer. It's because he is! Sigh. I miss this guy's writing it is really good. I have found a new favorite author. :D
Like I said before the writing is awesome. I've read that some people found this book to be to complicated and/or hard to get into. It's not, well, not to me. It's really good at least give it a chance, you will not be disappointed.
It's a beautifully crafted story about an unlikely friendship. No, it's not a love story, so don't expect one. Gosh you will seriously miss these characters. Aww I want to find me a Danny now hehe You'll know exactly what I mean once you read it. This book is unfortunately short but so full of awesomeness it will seriously leave you satisfied once you've read it. :) This is one of those books I know I'll be re-reading again and again. :D
This book is not only enjoyable to read but it also makes you think. You really need to give people a chance. You shouldn't just be friends with people you are normally friends with but..branch out you know? That sounds funny but you know what I mean. Make friends with those you don't think you'd normally be friends with. You just might find yourself a great friend. :D Toy Story!! hehe Anywho....
Characters: Margaux and Danny, sigh I love them and I will miss them terribly. I hated Margaux's parents for being such a-holes. I just wanted her to get away from them! I really liked Danny's aunt, that lady is super duper! I got so sad because her illness made her sad :( I just adored that she, Danny, and Margaux, like reading so much. :D

Cool:
The story, the well-developed, surely-to-be-missed characters, the writing, um..everything!

Not so Cool:
I didn't like that the writer kind of made it seem like what happened to Margaux was something else. That irked me a bit. I understand that I jumped to conclusions but wouldn't you? Okay you might not have any idea what I'm talking about but I don't want to ruin it for anyone so I'll just keep my mouth shut.

Sweetness:
Go buy it at Amazon for 7 bucks or Deep Discount (LOVE this store) for 6.50 and free shipping.

Carter Finally Gets It by Brent Crawford

Rating: 4/5
Age R: 13+/PG-13
Release Date: April 7, 2009
Thoughts:
Carter is a 14 year old guy starting high school. That includes girls with lady boobs and huge guys that have goatees. Scary place, scary place. With his ADD, his hornyness, his stuttering problem, how is he ever going to get through it, but most importantly (to him) how is he going to get laid?
Oh that Carter he is so freakin' horny! That kinda made go "sigh, that dork" but at the same time, it made me laugh sooo much! This guy is just freakin' hilarious. I love the way he thinks. Not the horny parts but how he speaks, it's just so funny. I seriously, I'm not even kidding, laughed so loud my parents heard me all the way from the living room. I just ...wow it was sooooo funny!!! I could not stop reading it because it was interesting and amusing to read about what Carter was going through. I even continued to read this book as I was waiting for Rudo y Cursi to come on (we had to wait for about 30 min, goes to show one should really check the times). It was really cool though because I was at the part where Carter was on a date at the movies. I could seriously see it happening. The part I'm talking about was where he went on a date with a girl and he had stomach problems. Hilarious. I had to try HARD not to laugh so hard because there were a few other people in the auditorium.
This is the book to pick up when you want to read something extremely hilarious so enjoy :D
Not only is it funny but it's interesting to read about Carter's "amazing" adventures. hehe
This would make for a GREAT movie. Just sayin' :D

Quotes:

He lookes pissed, like the last time he saw me, I kicked him in the nuts, or I stole this pizza from his grandma. Whatever his problem is, it looks like trouble.

I squeeze my butt cheeks together like a maximum-security prison trying to hold in a crazy prisoner who wants to escape and murder an innocent fourteen-year-old girl on her first date. This sucker is not getting out!...The fart passes and goes back to whatever part of your body farts go when they fail to complete their dastardly mission. But I know it'll be back.

Movie: Rudo y Cursi

Foreign Film (Mexico)

Release Date: May 8, 2009 (limited so you better check for local listings)
Rating: 4.5/5
Age R: Rated-R for brief nudity and tons of cursing
Thoughts:
Rudo y Cursi are two brothers living in a poor place in Mexico when one day a futbol (soccer) representative comes by and notices their awesome talent. Unfortunatly only one of them can go, but maybe in a year..possibly never, the other can go too. That's where the rivalry between these two brothers begins. That's not the only problem though. Cursi doesn't really want to be a soccer player, his dream is to become a famous singer while Rudo wants to be a famous soccer player and it would help to not have gambling problems....
This movie is awesome!! It's sooo dang funny and has a great story you can't miss it. I HIGHLY recommend it. Gosh I CANNOT tell you how many times I laughed out loud during this movie, it was that funny. I love it I love it. :)
It is such a great story about brothers. The ending is so dang adorable I loved it. Don't get me wrong, it's also pretty sad, but the message sent out--LOVE it! Okay maybe I'm repeating myself here but I can't help it okay. I really liked it. Now GO WATCH IT!
This movie will make you so sad at times then really happy then sad again then REALLY happy. :D Go!!!

Cool:
Cinematography, story, acting, humor, sibling relationships--all gives this movie a huge plus. :)

Not so cool:
I would have liked it if the soccer scenes were shown more. You don't really get to see the guys actually playing which kinda sucks. There's a reason for it but at the same time..I dunno I just would have liked a few more is all. Not to many but a few more.

Note:
The actor that plays Cursi looked so familiar to me then I looked his info up and found out he was the main guy in El Crimen del Padre Amaro (movie)! I knew I recognized him!! That movie is soooo sad! I saw it like two years ago when I was on vacation in Mexico visiting my grandparents. :D It's sooo sad! And in a way, the guy and girl, reminded me of one of my all time favorite books, The Cider House Rules. That movie is about a priest who ends up falling for a girl and ..stuff happens. It's super duper and SAD! I love it! :'( / :D
Another Note:
I completely forgot to post about it but Gael Garcia is the executive producer of the freaking AMAZING AWE INDUCING Sin Nombre. R.ed here. :) GO WATCH THESE MOVIES! :D

Dream Thursday: Meg Cabot and a meanie brother-in-law

As you can tell by the title the last interesting dream I had had a few guest stars in it. :) Yep Meg Cabot was one of them which I find pretty odd and interesting at the same time considering how I've never ever met her, I don't know her (duh if I haven't even met her), and she's an author. I've never had dreams with authors in them before.

Here's what I remember:

It was late-ish at night and I was in my house getting ready to go to the movies with my dad, half sister, brother-in-law, and half brother. In real life every now and then we all go to the movies so this wasn't really out of the norm. The next parts are pretty odd. I was fixing my hair and somehow I accidentally put too much blue and pink paint on it (?). It was not good because my shirt was in the same two neon colors and for some reason that just could not do. As I tried to fix the damage there was a honk outside in the driveway announcing those folks' arrival. I had to hurry up because it'd be rude to take so long. I noticed my dad was already inside the car when I stepped out of the house so of course he beat me to there. I guess now they didn't care about me going because all of a sudden my brother-in-law, who was driving, starts laughing his head off then takes off WITHOUT ME! I got so upset becase I really wanted to go to the movies, how could they do this to me?! And the rest of them didn't even care, those turds. Tsk tsk. I just stood there in the driveway dumbfounded for about five minutes straight (it seemed like that but it was a dream so hard to tell) until my mom came out and told me "My friend just called me and told me they are near the free way." She told me this as if I could catch up (?). I could (weird) but I was too angry to go so I went back to my room.
I don't remember if this was days later or what but on a different day in the afternoon maybe (daylight definitely) I was headed for my house when I met Meg Cabot along the way. I think I was expecting her, I'm not sure. I led her to my room and showed her my book collection (My room looked exactly like it does in real life!). She didn't even speak she just looked bored the whole time. :( hehe I think we were going to go to a concert or something I don't know. All I know is that we were waiting outside my house on my basketball "court" (there's one outside my house, it's not like those on the NBA or anything but you get the gist I hope) then out of no where, Gary Lightbody (yes the adorable lead singer of Snow Patrol) walks up to us. Meg Cabot is standing near the backdoor to my house, I'm lying down on the grass with my hands outstretched behind me and my legs spread out in front of me (I hope that makes sense I, ulike Meg Cabot, am not even close to being a good writer which is fine with me actually) just waiting for who knows what. Gary Lightbody just stands there near Meg Cabot without speaking. I tell him "Hey, you're Gary Lightbody. I'm going to your concert in June" (This is true in real life, I'm gonna go see Snow Patrol and Coldplay but I only really care because of Snow Patrol hehe on June 10). That was a silly thing to say since I'm sure he knows who he is hehe

I can't remember what happened after that. I remember that someone was trying to kill me (again) I'm not sure if they were trying to kill Meg Cabot too but if they were I hope we were both okay because I don't like dying in my dreams it sucks. :(
Hmm is Gary the name of Spongebob Squarepants's pet snail? hehehe

So what was YOUR latest dream about? :)

AND NOW...THE FIRST CHAPTER:

“Now he likes me?” I say aloud as I drop my phone to my lap and my heart does a strange little tuck and roll within my chest.

My ten-year-old brother, Mac, gives me a strange look from the seat beside me. With the top down in my aunt’s convertible, he can’t hear my words that are cast into the air to dance with the wind.

The orange towers of the Golden Gate Bridge loom toward us, with the darkening blue of sky and water filling the spaces between. Aunt Jenna is driving, with Mom talking beside her.

So it’s finally true.

Nick likes me.

I think I’m happy. Everyone will expect me to be happy. It’s not been a secret that I’ve liked him for . . . well, ever. Or at least for a few months.

And yet I have a very good reason for being completely annoyed about this.

The text stating Nick’s indirect admission of love, or at least “like,” arrives as we’re leaving an afternoon in San Francisco behind. But we aren’t driving the four hours home to Cottonwood. We’re driving toward our new life in Marin County.

Everyone at school knew that Nick liked me for a long time. His friends and my friends knew it. I knew it. But Nick apparently didn’t know his own feelings. Why can’t guys just trust others on these things?

I pick up my phone and reply to Kate’s text.

ME: Is Nick still standing there?

KATE: No. I think it freaked him out to wait for your response. The guys went to play Alien Hunter III before the movie starts. So what do you think? Patience paid off.

ME: I’m trying not to think that guys are really as dumb as most of us say they are.

KATE: Huh?

ME: Really now. I mean NOW. He says this on the day I move away?

KATE: Well you’ll be home most every weekend so it’s not that bad.

ME: But think about it. What made him decide today?

KATE: Who cares? He finally figured out he can’t live without you.

The car cruises along the bridge, and I stare up at the massive orange beams over our heads. Then I catch sight of a sailboat as it dips and bows on the evening waters of San Francisco Bay.

My brother is shout-talking to my mom and aunt. And with one earbud pulled out, I catch bits of the discussion being tossed around the car as the wind twists my hair into knots. The topic is “If you had one wish, what would you wish for?”

What poetic irony. Five minutes ago I would’ve wished that Nick would like me . . . and like some psychic genie working even before I wished it, the text arrived from Kate: “Nick said . . .”

So Nick likes me after I move four hours and a world away.

He likes me the day after I say good-bye to him and all my friends in Cottonwood.

I scroll back through my saved texts to find what he sent me after we said good-bye.

NICK: I wish you weren’t moving.

NICK: Next time you’re up visiting your dad let’s hang out.

NICK: How often will you be back?

NICK: So you don’t have a date for prom?

Men. I mean seriously.

So it’s like this. I’m moving to one of the coolest areas of California—Marin County. I’m going to live in this cool, quirky cottage that my aunt Betty gave us after she headed off on an extended Mediterranean honeymoon with the man, now her husband, she found online.

Since I was a little girl, I’ve wanted to live near San Francisco. Aunt Betty’s house was one of my favorite places. Kate and I plan to attend college down here. So now I get to live my dream sooner than expected.

Mac taps my arm, but I watch the little sailboat lean toward the open Pacific and wonder at its journey ahead, far or near, some California marina or faraway exotic isle.

My brother taps on my arm persistently. “Ruby-Ruby Red.”

I really dislike it when he calls me that. Then he reaches for my earbud, and I push his hand away.

“What?” I ask loudly, wiping strands of hair from my face. The sun falls easily into the cradle of the sea. It’s eventide—that time between sunset and darkness, a peaceful time of wind and bridges and dreams except for one annoying brother and an incoming text that could disrupt the excitement of a dream coming true.

“What do you wish for?” Mac asks earnestly.

My phone vibrates again, and I nearly say, “Don’t bug me, and don’t call me Ruby-Ruby Red,” but Mac’s sweet pink cheeks and expectant eyes stop me. I rub his hair and tickle him until he cries for mercy.

He laughs and twists away from my fingers, then asks me again what I wish for.

“Wait a minute,” I say, and he nods like he understands.

KATE: He said he’s been miserable since he said good-bye last night.

ME: So why didn’t he like me before?

KATE: He says he always did, he just kept it to himself.

ME: Or he kept it FROM himself.

Everyone said Nick said I was hot, that I was intelligent, that he’d never met a girl like me—which can be taken as good or bad. Everyone told him to ask me out, but he just didn’t. No explanation,

no other girlfriend, just nothing. For months. Until today.

KATE: He’s never had a girlfriend, give the guy a break. I always thought he’d be the bridge guy! Maybe he will be!

I rest the phone in my hands at that. Nick has been the main character in my bridge daydream—only Kate knows that secret dream of mine.

We’ve crossed the bridge into Marin County with signs for Sausalito, Corte Madera, San Rafael. The names of my new home, and yet I’m still between the old and the new.

“What are you smiling for?” my brother asks.

“Nothing,” I say and give him the mind-your-own-business look.

Mac stretches forward in his seat belt toward the front seat, and I’m tempted to tell him to sit down. But for once I don’t boss him around. He’s so happy about this wishing talk, with his wide dimpled smile and cheeks rosy from the wind. His cheeks remind me of when I loved kissing them—back when we were much younger.

“Remember, no infinity wishes. That’s cheating,” Mac shout says to Mom and Aunt Jenna, but he glances at me to see if I’m listening.

“This is really hard,” Aunt Jenna yells back. She points out the window to a line of cyclists riding along a narrow road parallel to the highway. “I bet those guys wish for a big gust of wind to come up behind them.”

Mac laughs, watching the cyclists strain up an incline.

Now they’ll probably start “creating wishes” for everyone they see.

I bet that car wishes it were as cool as that Corvette.

I think the people in that car wish they had a fire extinguisher for that cigarette . . .

Mom and her sister often make up stories about strangers while sitting outside Peet’s Coffee or, well, just about anywhere people watching is an option.

My phone vibrates in my hand, and then immediately again.

KATE: Hello?? No comment on Nick being your mysterious bridge guy?

ME: Nope

JEFFERS: So beautiful, are you there yet?

ME TO KATE: I just got a text from Jeffers.

KATE: LOL He’s sitting beside me and saw me talking to you.

JEFFERS: When can we come party in Marin?

ME TO JEFFERS: Almost there. Ten minutes I think. Uh party?

JEFFERS: Yeah, party! How could you leave us, I mean what could be better than us? You’ll be too cool for gocarts and mini golf after a month w/ the rich and sophisticated.

ME: I hate mini golf.

JEFFERS: See? One day and already too good for mini golf.

KATE: You’re having us all down for a party?

ME: Uh, no

JEFFERS: Kate’s yelling at me. Thx a lot. But bye beautiful, previews are on with little cell phone on the screen saying to turn you off.

ME TO JEFFERS AND KATE: K have fun. TTYL.

KATE: Write you after. Bye!

It’s a significant moment, this.

One of the most significant in my fifteen years.

Not the “wish discussion” between Mac, Mom, and Aunt Jenna; not the text messaging back and forth; not the music playing in one of my ears; not even Nick liking me.

The significance comes in crossing bridges. Not the bridge in my dream, but the ones that take me into Marin. The many bridges that brought my family here with my dad still in Cottonwood, and my older brother, Carson, driving soon behind us. And though we can turn around and drive back to the small

town I’ve always lived in, I wonder if, once you cross so many bridges, you can ever really go back.

The music in my one ear and the voices of my family in the other make a dramatic backdrop for this moment—one that will shape the rest of my life.

I feel a sense of wonder, but also of fear. It’s beautiful, this time of long evening shadows. The sky in the west where the sun has fallen turns from a subtle to defined sunset of red and orange.

The hills of Marin County rise to the nighttime with their myriad dots of light. The salty breeze is cool coming off the Pacific.

“What’s your wish?”

I jump as Mac shouts at me, leaning to get his face close to mine. I nearly throw my phone out the open rooftop.

“Mac! Mom!”

“Mac, leave your sister alone. She needs time to think,”

Mom calls back with a worried glance in my direction. She was more worried than I was about this move to Marin . . .well, until I said all the good-byes this week and especially now. I realize it’s the last remnant of what is, taking us from the past and what has been to the new place, the new life, and the what will be.

“Do you know what I wish?” Mac says in a loud whisper that only I can hear.

The innocent expression on his face soothes my annoyance.

He motions for me to lean close.

“I wish I was six again.”

“Why?”

“Promise you won’t tell Mom or Austin or Dad and Tiffany, ’cause I don’t want to hurt their feelings . . .” He waits for me to agree. “I wish I was six ’cause Mom and Dad were married then. But then that would make Austin and Tiffany go away, and I don’t really want them to go away, but I sort of wish Mom and Dad were married still.”

I nod and glance up toward Mom, who is staring out toward the bay. “Yeah, I know, Mac. But it’ll be all right.”

“So what do you wish for?” he asks again.

We’re almost there now, and I still have no singular wish. How do you make such a choice when your whole life is upended—for the good and the bad? I wonder if San Francisco Bay is like one giant wishing well, and in the coming years I can toss as many pennies as I want into the blue waters and have all the wishes I need.

I hope so. And maybe wishing that the bay would become one giant well breaks Mac’s rule about infinity wishes. But regardless, this is what I wish my wish to be.

It was my choice to move to Marin with Mom. But now I wonder if these bridges are taking me where I should be going. Or if they’re taking me far, far away.

“I wish for infinity wishes!” I say and kiss Mac on the cheek before he protests. “No one can put rules on wishes.”

And this is what I truly want to believe.

Secrets to Happiness by Sarah Dunn

Non-YA Book
Rating: 4/5
Age R: 17+/Rated-R
Release Date: March 25, 2009
Thoughts:
This is the story of a thirty something woman named Holly. She is not happy. Why? Well last year her now ex-husband, just up and left her. She couldn't even tie her shoes for a month after that. That was a year ago but she has still not gotten over it and she has not managed to find someone. She wants to find a guy that she can settle down and be happy with. She's not the only one feeling this way, in this unhappy way. There's also the apparently-always-looking-sad-to everyone Betsy, there's Holly's best friend Amanda, who is not that happy with her marriage and might be having an affair even if she also has a baby to think about, then there's Leo, Spencer, and many others. These New York folks just want to be happy. But it's SO hard!
Secrets to Happiness is not a story about the secrets of happiness, not really. You should know that straight off. There really isn't a secret to happiness. A bunch of people are unhappy and so they try to be happy even if it means doing crazy things. Sometimes, they don't do anything at all, they just stay unhappy, which of course keeps them unhappy. Basically the secret to happiness is there is no secret. You just have to try to be happy and hope for the best.
I liked this book, I really liked it. It started off pretty slow but it gradually got better and better. Some of the characters I didn't like because they were such a-holes. But hey, that's how they are which makes them more realistic since in real life you know there are people just like that. I LOVED how realistic this book was. Kudos to Sarah Dunn for that. Of course not only for that but also for making this book very entertaining. Some parts were seriously laugh out loud funny it's hard not to enjoy this book.
Recommended. :D

A Look Inside:
'Is it true that Native Americans get their names by the first thing their father sees after they're born?'
'That's one way it happens, yes'
'And your dad saw two feathers?'
'So he tells me.'
'That's cool' said Holly.
'I guess so.'
'I guess you're lucky he didn't see something like, I don't know, an answering machine. Or a plasma TV.'
'--'

'People are less willing to put up with unhappiness.'
'And yet, so many people are so unhappy.'
'And therein,' said Mark, 'lies the rub.'

You are So Undead to Me by Stacey Jay

Rating: 4/5
Age R: 13+
Release Date: January 22, 2009
Thoughts:
You Are So Undead to Me is about a 15 year old girl who can't remember part of her past. She still has nightmares about that night. The night a Zombie bit her. Yeah I said Zombie. You see, that girl, Megan, she's not your average teen. She's a Settler. Don't know what that is? Well then, let me tell you. Settlers are those few people who have to put the Unsettled a.k.a Zombies, back in their graves. They are Unsettled because they basically have some unfinished business. There can be some problems with these Unsettled though. For example, they could be seen which could be really bad, or they could become Reanimated Corpses because some evil Black magic using psycho is bringing them back in order to do some bad like say try to make Megan's life sucky. Something crazy and super evil is going on and it is highly likely that someone may be trying to kill Megan or the people around her or both. Yikes! Suspense! :D
The main guy just so happens to be a really hot guy who is also basically a cop. He's not really a cop but that's the equivalent of what he is in the Settler "world" (I mean world as in, totally different from the normal non-settler people not like Aliens or something). He's three years older than her okay? Not some 30 yr old creeper. Just wanted to make that clear. I really liked him and his relationship with her.
I REALLY liked reading this book! I've read/seen similar things, but it's creative and cute enough to be different and to make it stand out quite a bit. Some parts actually made me laugh out loud and who doesn't love that?
About the cuteness--Gosh it was so darn cute! All of it, I loved it! There were some moments that were so sad. I seriously felt heartbroken when the character felt heartbroken. Poor girl I felt so bad for her. :( Do you know what that means? Yes I'm a wuss, but it also means I really "connected" with the protagonist. That's the absolute main reason I liked this book so much. So many will relate to it which just makes that much of a better read.
I'll admit, I thought this book might not be that great. I'm happy to say I was wrong, so, SO wrong. Give it a try, you'll find yourself liking it too.
Something I didn't like though was the whole mystery part of it. There's a bad guy so you are constantly wondering "Oh man, who is it? Is it that person? Or maybe that one?" I kinda figured out who it was, but only partially. It's hard to explain without spoiling it, so I just won't say more. Not to make you guys think I'm smart when it comes to solving mysteries, because I'm NOT, I just tend to guess right is all. So don't be put off by that. I felt like pointing it out anyway. I honestly didn't find this book predictable, but if you're a really good guesser like me, then you might figure it out. There are quite a bit of twists and turns so I doubt you'll be exactly right, I sure as heck wasn't. Actually you know what? I don't think you'll figure it out, there's just no way. hehe Sorry :D

Cool:
I loved that the writing kept me glued to every single page. I finished the book pretty quickly because I really enjoyed the story, I just had to know what was going to happen next.
The Shmeg thing is HILARIOUS!
Not so cool:
I didn't really like the whole amnesia thing. I didn't like the fact that there's no explanation for why Megan's mom doesn't tell her about her past. I mean, the mom must have known about a certain person in her past.

Note:
I just want to say, I do not appreciate the fact that John Heder was basically said to be unfortunate looking tsk tsk He's cute! :D I get that the author is basically comparing his "nerdy" looks to those of the main hot guy but tsk tsk not nice, man, not nice.
Another thing, I thought the Josh eyebrow thing was a bit odd. The reason for it not the act itself.

Very Mature. And this was the woman I was supposed to respect as the Yoda to my Skywalker. She was way more Wookie.

I closed the journal and hurried to the front of the room, feeling like I was back in the third grade getting in trouble for reading Princess Diaries novels instead of my stupid assigned reading.

Think of the she-devil and she shall appear. 'Thanks, Monica. I really appreciate your concern,' I said, my tone so sweet it could have caused a diabetic to go into shock.

YOU WILL ENJOY READING THIS BOOK IF YOU LIKE:
-humor
-evil psychos
-suspense
-enjoyable unputdownable (yeah it's not a word so what?) reads
-awesome references to BVS, Star Wars, Alias (I LOVE Alias!!! Woot!), and Napoleon Dynamite.
-Zombie Queen of Newbury High by Amanda Ashby. R.ed here.
-Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot (I LOVE that series!)-the series is mentioned in this book in such a funny way hehe I also say PD because in a way the book is similar. The main girl is 15 just like Mia Thermopolis is in PD I (or was she fourteen? I can't remember), either way almost the same age and her love interest is similar in a way. You'll see once you read it.
-Buffy the Vampire Slayer
-Charmed (TV show)-there is something that happens with certain Zombies that happens with an evil lackey in a Charmed episode. If you've read it, it's the regenerate part. I hope you know what I'm talking about.
-Carrie (movie and Stephen King book movie is based on)

What was I listening to?
White Flag - Dido

I think it's a pretty weird coinkidink that my iPod chose to play (it's pretty much always on shuffle mode) White Flag considering how Angel's ADORABLE David Boreanaz comes out on the video. He's not very cute there but still. :) He's the reason I watch Bones. hehe My favorite Angel ep was when he was turned into a puppet, just putting that out there...... :D I miss it and I miss my Spike!! :'(

I totally believe that!

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Life's too short to be a b*tch.

That was posted in the comments section of today's Post Secret. I TOTALLY believe that! I can never believe how people can be such a-holes. Life's better spent LIVING not making others miserable.

This reminded me of a few days ago when one of my 8 year old cousins told me a girl made her cry at school. :( Gosh poor little darling. Ugh I just wish I could yell at that mean girl or something, I wouldn't do that because that accomplishes nothing but still I thought it! Grr people like that anger me. I told my cousin to ignore that girl, she's just being a meanie and whatever mean things she says don't matter. Awww my poor little darling cried :'(

I thought it might get stretchy if I put heavy things in it but thank goodness that doesn't happen. The fabric is so dang soft I love it. :) They have tons of other cute bags there. My bag came with a coupon so if ya'll want to use it you're welcome to. For 10% off the code is buddha. They have tons of other cute bags so you should check those out. Sarah Quigley-Author Interview and Giveaway

Everyone, say Hello to Sarah Quigley!! :D She's the author of the hilarious and highly enjoyable TMI book that I read, loved, and reviewed.

Where did you come up with the idea for TMI? What inspired you? Was some of the story based on your real life experiences?
I wrote under the alias of Babs on my own blog for many years. Babs was me, but funnier, smarter, and cooler. She always looked smashing and knew exactly what to say to shush the haters. I created a similar alter ego for Becca, the main character of TMI.

Like Becca, I have often overshared. When I was a teenager, I had almost no filter. Very few subjects were taboo with me, much to the chagrin of my friends and family. Luckily, the Internet was not the worldwide craze it is today (and I’m not that old—I can’t even run for President yet), but I kept a diary that nobody read.

A few other elements of the story are loosely based on my own experiences. I did a lot of community theater growing up, so I thought it would be fun for Becca and her friends to get involved in a production of Grease. I also had a sweet, geeky boyfriend that I should have been nicer to. I hope he’s forgiven me by now.

Did you ever go through something like Becca did, when she was basically shunned and made fun of by her peers? (I can see how so many readers will relate to that, it makes me so sad that people can be so cruel) :(

Sixth grade was hands down the worst year of my life. I was incredibly sensitive (still am) and cried easily, which made me a prime target for bullies. I ended up in a class with an especially mean bunch of boys and a teacher who couldn’t manage them. I was picked on pretty much constantly, and the more I tried to fight back, the worse it got. I didn’t have a single friend by the end of the year. It took me a long time to recover from that.

Are you and Becca alike? If so, how? (I loved her, she's so awesome!!)
Aside from our many TMI moments, Becca and I also share hobbies of knitting, baking, and watching movies from the 1980s. We both have cool parents and funny younger brothers (although my own brothers never ran around naked that much!).

What else would you like to tell us about your book?
Writing TMI was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It tied my brain into knots, I tell ya. TMI was my first attempt at a full-length novel, and I was not prepared for how complicated it was going to be. I learned a lot in the process, though, and I think my next novel is going to be even better.

When did you first know you wanted to be a writer? Are you happy with your career? If you could be anything in the world (career-wise) what would you be and why (other than a writer of course)?

I wanted to be a writer pretty much as soon as I learned how to write. I created a series of illustrated stories when I was in first grade, and I’ve been writing ever since. I definitely went through a long period when I didn’t think I’d ever be a published author, so I pursued a career in teaching. I taught English as a second language to college students for almost eight years. I stopped teaching when my daughter was born last year, and I love being a stay-at-home mom. Although it’s a demanding job and the pay sucks, I feel fortunate to be able to do it. My proudest accomplishments are my daughter and TMI, in that order.

What's your biggest fear?
Well, besides the obvious (death of a loved one), I suppose it would be getting caught eating a whole bag of Pirate’s Booty while watching the Food Network in my underwear. Not that I’ve ever done that. Just sayin’.

Can you tell us a little secret?

You mean besides the Food Network/Pirate’s Booty/underwear horror?

What constantly makes you smile?

My daughter’s smiles. I live for them.

Know a good joke? :)

I love it when little kids try to make up knock-knock jokes. Go find a four-year-old and ask him to tell you one. You won’t be disappointed.

Do you read much? What's the last thing you read? What's your favorite book?

My to-be-read pile towers over me, and honey, I ain’t short. I just finished Breathing by Cheryl Herbsman and loved it. I also happen to know Cheryl and am doing a book signing with her later this week, so that made the book even more fun to read. My favorite book for grown-ups is definitely Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. I can’t really pick a favorite young adult novel because there are too many good ones, but my favorite YA authors are E. Lockhart, Lauren Myracle, John Green, and Laurie Halse Anderson.

Are you also a TV addict? What are some of your favorite TV shows?

I went through a period of about five years when I didn’t watch TV at all, but I watched a ton of movies. Then I saw Survivor when I was visiting my in-laws. One show and I was hooked. I never miss an episode. I even remembered to record the show while I was at the hospital giving birth to my daughter.

I have no interest in scripted dramas. I was a fan of Beauty and the Geek and The Apprentice (both original and celebrity formats). I will also sheepishly admit that I sometimes watch The Bachelor although I always feel disgusted with myself afterwards, like I just ate half a dozen chocolate chip cookies. And not even good homemade ones but those dry, crispy store-bought ones with tiny pathetic chips.

How did you get to be so cool? (I stole this question from her site hehe)

As a teenager, I wasn't cool at all. I didn't have enough money for the right clothes, and I wasn't willing to wake up early enough in the morning to do anything special with my hair. But physical appearances were only part of it. The main reason I wasn't cool was that I felt inferior to all of the supposedly "cool" people around me. Once I realized that they were just people, and that we're all more alike than we are different, I was able to relax about the whole thing. And once I gave up on actually trying to be cool, it finally happened. I'd like to think so, anyway.

Yay! I love learning about the story behind books, especially those I really enjoyed reading.
You can check out Sarah's blog here. Be sure to participate in her TMI Tuesday's they are so NEATO! Some of the TMI's are interesting other's REALLY entertaining. You can see the ones already posted here.

Guess what else folks? Sarah is offering you guys a chance to win an adorable nose warmer (pictured right there)!! So leave a comment for a chance to win before I pick the winners on May 24.

Question (Optional):
So people, any thoughts, comments? If you read the book already, what did you think?

Thanks Sarah! :D
