The Box (Movie Review)

Rating: 3.5/5

Synopsis:
The Box is a 2009 science fiction/horror film based on the 1970 short story "Button, Button" by Richard Matheson, which was previously adapted into an episode of the 1980s incarnation of The Twilight Zone. The film is written and directed by Richard Kelly and stars Cameron Diaz and James Marsden as a couple who receive a box from a mysterious man who offers them one million dollars if they press the button sealed within the dome on top of the box.

Thoughts:
The only thing I freakin' loved about this movie was the explanation for why it's a "box." I'm a huge fan of Richard Kelly and Donnie Darko. Obviously I expected something awesome. I was disappointed. The movie was not nearly as great as I hoped. It just was not that great and unique. I love unique! That's one of the reasons I loved DD so much. I would recommend renting this one because it's worth a watch but not the theater ticket.
The movie basically is about this couple who must decide whether or not to push a button which will kill one person they do not know. There is much more to the story and I liked it but did not love it. I really liked the end though. I freakin' hated that it was sexist though. You have no idea how much that annoyed me. I think people will enjoy the story behind the box and how so many things/people are connected especially the twist about "person you don't know," but for fans of DD, you might be disappointed. Beware! Maybe I should just stop having my expectations so high but I can't help it!

I apologize for not reviewing this movie sooner when it counts more but I just haven't had time to even updated this site much. That makes me sad :(

This is a movie I actually wanted to see. The premise looked kinda cool. Hmmm...I think I might wait for a matinee or to rent it tho if it's not as great as it should have been. Thanks for the info!!
