Foreign Film (Belgium/French)Rating: 4.5/5

Release Date: 1997
Nifty:
If you have Netflix, it's available for instant watch.
Synopsis:
It tells the story of Ludovic, a child who was born male but consistently insists that he is supposed to be a girl. The film shows the struggle over gender identity he and his family experience.
Thoughts:
The protagonist, Ludovik, is a friggin' strong kid. He's only about 7 years old yet he remains tough and true to himself no matter what. Of course, he can't always think of himself right? He also has to think about his family first, isn't that how it goes? Society sucks does it not?
Ludovik is a boy. He likes playing with dolls and wearing dresses. He comes to believe that when God sent him his XY chromosomes he accidentally ended up with two X's, like a girl. So basically he's a guy stuck in a girl's body.
When he and his family move in to a community full of a-hole hypocrites who can't accept him, well, there's trouble. :(
Ludovik goes through so much at such a young age, I just don't know how he can handle it. If I were in his situation I don't think I would have ever made it. He's such a smart adorable person you'll come to love him and want him to be happy. You wil also want to beat up all those mean bastards or give them the stink eye.
I loved the cinematography, especially when it involved the dolls. It was so creative and cute. I also loved the way the X's and Y's scene was illustratated. Genius.
Watch it and love it!

I watched this movie, and I found it heart-wrenching -- especially the way the parents were unable, or unwilling, to support Ludovik. I agree that it was a good movie. My daughter reviewed this one too -- http://aspergiansarah.xanga.com/687678156/ma-vie-en-rose-my-life-in-pink
