Struggling twentysomething actress Reese Holdin has been promised $100,000 by book editor Lori Lansky if Reese can secure for publication, love letters written by her legendary, but reclusive father Don, to his equally revered late wife--Reese's mother. Suddenly highly motivated, Reese treks from New York City to Michigan, where she finds Don in flagrant disregard of his own health and living with two younger housemates: practical former grad student Shelly and would-be musician Corbit. But she comes to appreciate her unlikely new "siblings," and as secrets are revealed, comes to terms with her father and their shared past and future.
Thoughts:
I LOVED this movie. It wasn't the best movie I've ever seen but I really, really liked it. I'm a huge fan of Zooey Deschanel (her sister Emily too) so of course when I read about this movie in ninth grade I had to watch it! So I did. I was definitely not disappointed although I gotta tell ya, I loved the soundtrack more than the movie. Sorry, I just did. It's awesome and I found some new artists that I still love now. :)
I loved the messed up characters in this movie the most. Sometimes I got so angry at them for having done stupid things, but what can you do? Other than scream at the T.V but whatever. I was never a fan of Will Ferrel (FYI Deschanel and Ferell worked togther in this movie and in Elf, just saying) but I didn't mind him so much in this one. It was a fun little ride watching this movie but in the end I didn't feel completely satisfied with it. I wanted more. I loved the story but at the same time, I just seriously wanted to know more. It was enjoyable and quite sad too :(
BTW as you can see from the synopsis, this movie also kinda has to do with books hehe :)
Gosh, I hadn't thought about this movie in a long time...
Soundtrack:
I LOVE the soundtrack. This is where I "discovered" Dawn Landes who's music I adore. She sings The Kissing Song on here which is my all time favorite song after Ansia. It's also where I "discovered" Azure Ray who's music I friggin' adore too.
Trailer:
After having watched the movie a few years ago I of course had to practically run to the store(okay, I bought it offline) and buy the DVD and soundtrack. I suggest you do the same, you won't regret it. :D
Enjoy! :)
P.S-don't forget to check out Zooey's new movie 500 Days of Summer on July 17. Check out my review of it here if you haven't already.
