A Kiss in Time by Alex Flinn

Rating: 3.8/5
Age R: 13+
Release Date: April 28, 2009
Synopsis:
This is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. It's not your average tale. Sleeping Beauty, Talia, has mistakenly touched a spindle which she was warned never to be near! Now she, her family, and her whole kingdom have fallen asleep until the day her true love's first kiss wakes her from her slumber. Unfortunately, that takes 300 years. The lucky guy (or is he?) that kisses her and wakes her and her kingdom, is Jack, a sixteen year old guy. As you can imagine, this whole deal with the now long lost and never even heard of kingdom and its people is pretty crazy to Jack and now the chick he just woke up expects him to marry her? WTFruit?!
Thoughts:
I loved this book! It was quick and very cute. There were some things about it I didn't like though. The love story bit in the story seemed like it came out of no where. One day Jack and Talia are not in love with each other or even thinking of that and the next, BAM, they are in love! Silly. This and the fact that Jack was all "Oh my mommy and daddy don't love me and my daddy would never approve of the lifestyle I want to have" was very annoying. Jack came out as whinny most of the time which seriously got on my nerves. I learned to get past that and managed to still enjoy the book. I would still read this book again but next time I'd skip right past those whinny Jack moments.
The book is written in the alternating POV's of Jack and Talia. As you're reading in Talia's POV you really feel bad for the poor girl after all, she had her whole kingdom asleep for 300 years! Poor girl :( You also feel bad for her because she really wants Jack to love her because he's supposed to be her true love but unfortunately he's still hung up on his skanky ex girlfriend who broke his heart. BTW that whole deal is ridiculous. Well, the part where Jack is rude to poor Talia.
I had quite a few issues with this book but overall I loved it and would read it again especially if I'm in the mood for a cute, quick read. I guess the part I loved the most was the love story, even if it was a bit silly. The reader knows Jack and Talia are "meant to be" and going through their thoughts until they get there is pretty cute. I'm a sucker for these kinds of stories :)

Quote/s:
"Parents always forgive you," Meryl says. "Like sometimes, you see parents on the news, and their kid just got busted for murdering a 7-eleven clerk, and they're like, 'But my Bubba's a good boy. He'd never hurt a fly.' So I'm sure your parents would forgive you for whatever you did."

YOU WILL ENJOY READING THIS BOOK IF YOU LIKE/ARE INTERESTED IN:

-Sleeping Beauty
-crazy teenagers of 2009/this century
-humor
-parental problems
-spindles --hehe
-true love's first kiss
-short, quick reads
-The Little Mermaid (Disney Movie-back when they deserved to be called movies)
-Enchanted (Movie)
-Alex Flinn--also wrote Beastly (R.ed here), Breaking Point, Diva, Fade to Black, and many more.
-Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey. R.ed here. I felt that these two stories were somewhat similar since in A Kiss in Time the guy basically has this girl engaged to him...in a way.

This sounds really cute! I'm a fan of modern fairy tale retellings. :) I know I'd definitely get annoyed with Jack, but if I read it, hopefully I can get past that like you. Thanks for the review!
